The Reed Runner is the result of nearly two years of research and development. The Wurlitzer Electric Piano is such a completely unique and challenging EP that it took several major overalls from our original design concept to what eventually became the final design. What emerged is a fantastic amp that maximizes functionality and features while pioneering a brand new retrofit that requires either very little modification or none whatsoever. This amp not only has wonderful features for home or studio, it also has a wide variety of routing options and accessories to ensure you get exactly the functionality that suits you and your instrument the best. With that said, here are the bullet points:

• Lid Mounted Controls - Using our unique overlay plate you can mount your controls on the lid giving the ability to implement 4 controls and 2 switches without the need to drill the lid or change the original faceplate.

• Mono/Stereo Tremolo - Our famous VCA-based tremolo is back (but with a wave-shape redesign to better suit the Wurlitzer). You can switch between classic mono and sweeping stereo for both the speaker output and the Direct Out.

• Maximum Isolation and Regulation - We added multiple stages of power regulation and designed our circuit using a 4-layer PCB for the absolute best noise rejection and the ideal layout of signal and ground plane. We also include an AC shielding tube for the AC line.

• Plug & Play - while there are some important instructions to follow, we made this installation as safe and simple as possible. With color coded connectors, detailed instructions and several routing options to ensure a smooth install.

• 8/16 Ohm Output Impedance - We added a switch on the PCB which allows for running either the 16ohm original speakers or 8 ohm speakers for those with alternate speakers from the factory or people looking to change things up.

• Direct Out Switch - Switch Between +4db and -10db for true line level output or for running into hotter instrument amplifiers. This direct out is mono/stereo and fully buffered.

• Advanced FX Loop - Also fully buffered, there are send and return gain level knobs on the PCB. With these controls you can run anything from a line level rack mount to a high-gain guitar pedal with excellent gain structure in a wide variety of implementations.

• Tone Control - A completely new feature. This is a boost/cut in the high-mid register with a wide Q for musical tone sculpting. You can dial down into a mellow vintage character or crank up the tone knob for a forward modern shine.

• Routing Options - In order to give the best possible signal to noise response we offer optional AC switch routing, as well as the ability to turn the speakers off entirely and run the Direct Out only. You can also abandon the speakers entirely in lieu of a high-powered headphone amp out. You can use the FX loop via external switching box or route directly from the original outputs under most 200 series models. This is all detailed in the instructions.

• Quality Craftsmanship - We make each and every board right here in our workshop in Hallsville, MO. These are through-hole construction using Kester solder and premium name brand components throughout. Virtually no audio company in the US does anything close to this anywhere near this price. These units also come with a class-leading 1 year warranty.

• Superb Sound - the JFET preamp section features the best in modern analogue op-amp design with high quality audio-grade components throughout, while the power amp chip is a stereo Overture series made for high-fidelity amplification. In combination with the tremolo and tone control this amp will get your Wurlitzer running like never before!

The Reed Runner can be set up in a variety of ways depending on the preferred use case and available routing. So there will be some accessory options - including FX loop breakout box and high-power headphone option. One of the design criteria was to make an amplifier to fit as many potential uses as possible without having to create different production models. So there may be excess features for some users that can be ignored or possibly added later. Also, because of the simplified outputs and connectors - people with some experience in electronics will be able to wire various options in a DIY fashion if they choose.

Another routing note - as with most of our audio designs - keeping the AC away from the signal is both recommended and design supported. As such there are several recommended AC switch positions and a couple styles of switch which are included. The Wurlitzer EP was rife with AC interference so we provide a safe AC connector and switch that can be mounted in multiple positions, some with minor modification, others without any required. This is detailed in the manual and upcoming videos. But suffice to say it is provided to be safe, require no soldering, and give the ability to remove unwanted and potentially noisy interference.
